A Broadband network for Australia

People in homes, small businesses and indigenous communities in some of the most remote areas of Australia are among the first users of the new broadband satellite service provided over the NBN.

NBN Co's Interim Satellite Service is now available to eligible individuals and small businesses on the mainland and across Tasmania through Bluemaxx Communications Pty Ltd, with the priority being given to those who currently have no alternate access to broadband services. Eligible households, small businesses and communities will able to order their service via Bluemaxx Communications a premium retail service provider.

The National Broadband Network is a next-generation broadband network designed for Australia’s future needs. The network comprises three technologies—optic fibre, fixed wireless and next-generation satellite–and will provide more reliable, high-speed broadband access to all Australians.

How do I connect?

Work has already begun on the NBN and, by the end of the 10-year rollout, Bluemaxx plans to connect Australian homes and businesses to this new high-speed broadband network.

▪ 93 per cent of Australian premises will have access to the NBN through optic fibre, capable of providing broadband speeds of up to one gigabit per second

▪ 7 per cent of premises will have access to the NBN through next-generation fixed wireless and satellite technologies, providing peak speeds of 12 megabits per second
